Rev. Eddie Spencer
Once told he’d die or spend life behind bars, Eddie Spencer defied the odds. At 16, he was sentenced to Parchman for armed robbery and attempted murder.
Illiterate and hardened by poverty and prison, Eddie met God behind bars and began a lifelong transformation. With support from mentors, he learned to read, earned his GED, and discovered his calling.
After his release and clemency in 1988, he built a new life in Jackson, Mississippi.
Today, Eddie is the pastor of Alta Woods and Mt. Salem United Methodist Churches, a husband and father, and co-author of Inmate 46857 and Put Out the Fire.
His story is a testament to grace, change, and second chances.
